As protests against the death of #GeorgeFloyd continue around the United States, its time to revisit police brutality in Nigeria. Don’t stay in Nigeria hash tagging #JusticeforGeorgeFloyd and ignore your fellow Citizen whose human rights are being violated by a trigger happy police officer .
Section 33 (1) in Chapter IV of the amended 1999 Nigerian Constitution and the United Nations’ Charter on Human Rights guarantee a citizen’s right to life. George Floyd is dead but a moment was born because a young black teenage girl was bold enough to stand and recorded the entire incident. For us to change the narrative at home, we must begin to look out for ourselves and unite to fight for justice.
