For the first time since Nigeria established bilateral relations with the United States, a woman will head the Nigerian Mission in Washington, D.C.
Prior to her appointment by President Muhammadu Buhari, Dr. Uzoma Emenike was Nigeria’s Ambassador to Ireland with concurrent accreditation to Iceland. Her arrival in Washington comes at a strategic time as the Biden Administration unfolds its agenda for Africa.
Ambassador Emenike holds a PhD in International Diplomacy from the University of Reading, UK, alongside four other degrees. She holds a B.Sc, Sociology and Anthropology, from the University of Maiduguri, Nigeria and an LL.B from the University of Reading in the UK.
While her Master’s degree in International Law and Diplomacy was from the University of Lagos, Nigeria, she obtained another Master’s in International Management from University of Reading, UK.
She also has certificates in French and Postgraduate Diploma in Diplomacy, Nigerian Diplomatic Service Academy.
