Amb. Peter Lot Egopija assumed his role as the Consul General of Nigeria, New York in April, 2021.
Ambassador Edopija joined the Nigerian diplomatic corps in 1993. He has enjoyed an expansive diplomatic career working for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and has held various posts and positions in Nigeria and abroad. At post, he has served at the Embassy/Permanent Mission of Nigeria to the United Nations in Austria, Embassy of Nigeria, Jakarta, Indonesia and Permanent Mission of Nigeria to the United Nations in New York.
From March 2016 to July 28th, 2017, Amb. Edopija was the Chargé d’ Affaires at the Embassy of Nigeria in Dakar, Senegal, and Deputy Head of Mission from August 2017 to January 2019.
At the Headquarters, he served in the following Divisions and Departments: Liaison Office Lagos Marina, Airport Protocol Ikeja, Housing/Accommodation Division, Personal Assistant to the Permanent Secretary, East and Central African Division, Policy Division, Posting Division, State Protocol, Training and Staff Welfare, Administration. Prior to his posting to New York, he was the Director, Planning, Research and Statistics Department.
Ambassador Egopija has been a member of Nigeria’s delegation to numerous international conferences, amongst them are:
a. The Commonwealth Senior Official’s Ministry in 2002.
b. Member of the Nigeria’s delegation to the board of Governors of United Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO), Doha Qatar 2011.
c. International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)
d. United Nations General Assembly Sessions.
e. 49th Ordinary Summit of the authority of the Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS held in Dakar, 4th June 2016.
Ambassador Edopija holds a B.A in Philosophy from the University of Calabar and a M.A in Philosophy from the University of Lagos.
He is married with (3) three children.
