On Tuesday April 30th, Mayor of the city of Newark: Hon. Ras J. Baraka will receive the Consul General of Nigeria, Honourable Ben B.M Okoyen. During his working visit to Newark, the Consul General and his team will meet with the Nigerian community in the State of New Jersey.
In July of 2014, Mayor Ras J.Baraka became Newark’s 40th mayor, on a platform of improving the city’s public school system, economic growth, and criminal justice reform. During his tenure, Baraka launched the Newark’s first police Civilian Complaint Review board and unified the City’s police and fire departments into a single public safety department.
Prior to being appointed Consul General of Nigeria in New York, Benaoyagha Okoyen served as the protocol liaison officer (PLO) as well as the Special Assistant to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, positions he held since 2011. Previously, Okoyen also served as a protocol liaison officer to the Vice President of the federal republic of Nigeria from 2008 to 2010.
